Absolutely not. This training is open to anyone with a deep interest in learning and sharing yoga—regardless of how flexible, experienced, or practiced you are. All that’s required is a willingness to learn and participate.
We will teach you foundational yoga principles, precautions, contraindications, and trauma-informed approaches to teaching, so you can graduate with the confidence and skills to guide others in a wide variety of settings.

Absolutely. Many of our students are already 200- or 500-hour certified teachers looking to deepen their trauma-informed, therapeutic, or neuro-affirming skills.
This training bridges yoga and healthcare, supports ethical scope of practice, and equips you to teach more inclusively and professionally in private or clinical settings.

Yes — if you have a personal practice and are passionate about becoming a yoga teacher, this training will support you from the ground up.
We’ve trained psychologists, OTs, social workers, nurses, and mental health support workers who bring rich lived experience and curiosity to the learning space.
You do not need to be “flexible” or experienced — just open and willing to learn.

A 200-hour training is simply not enough time to develop the depth of understanding needed to teach safely and effectively in today’s world. With a growing body of evidence supporting the benefits of yoga on mental and physical health, more health professionals are referring clients to yoga—and expecting a certain standard of care.

At Jala Yoga®, we believe the modern yoga teacher needs strong skills in mental health literacy, trauma-informed care, scope of practice, and the ability to work alongside allied health professionals.

Our 350-hour program is designed to give you more time to build clinical insight, confidence, and readiness to teach safe, therapeutic, and inclusive classes from day one.

Our training is rooted in the Ashtanga Yoga method as a structural foundation, and integrates elements of Hatha, Kriya Yoga, and Yoga Therapy throughout. The approach is trauma-informed, neuro-affirming, and responsive to real-world teaching contexts.

You’ll learn to facilitate inclusive, empowering classes that support mental health and nervous system regulation.

The training also includes:

• Pre & Postnatal Yoga

• Yin & Restorative Yoga with a Chinese Medicine therapeutic lens

• Evidence-based anatomy, physiology, and injury prevention through a biopsychosocial lens

• Culturally responsive, decolonised approaches to Yoga philosophy

• Chair Yoga, adaptive sequencing, and accessible language

Our curriculum weaves together the best of ancient tradition and modern evidence-based practice.

The in-person training takes place at Gecko Hall, a tranquil community venue nestled in nature.

The location is easily accessible by public transport, with ample parking nearby. You'll practice in a peaceful, light-filled space just moments from the beach.

The course runs from January 10 – October 25, 2026, over a 10-month period.

You’ll study across 4 terms, blending live online sessions with immersive in-person modules (accessible via in-person or zoom for remote students).

Exact dates and weekend intensives are listed in the prospectus. This structure is designed to support busy lives, study rhythms, and meaningful integration between modules.

Jala Yoga® adheres to a 100% attendance policy. However, we understand that life happens, and there may be times when you’re unable to attend.

If you miss a session, here are your options:

• If the module permits, you may watch the recorded lecture and submit a short written reflection or summary.

• For in-person modules that require assessment, ‘make-up’ sessions are available at a subsidised rate of $120/hr with Mollie.

Alternative options may be available on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the Training Coordinator, Mollie.

Yes — from the very start. Within the first few weeks, you’ll begin practising in pairs, building confidence through supported micro-teaching sessions.

Throughout the 10-month journey, you’ll lead practice teaching most weekends and graduate with many hours of hands-on teaching experience — more than most standard trainings offer.

The Jala Yoga® team provides detailed feedback on your teaching throughout, so you can grow your skills in real-time. This ensures you finish the training feeling confident, capable, and ready to teach.

Absolutely. Many of our students begin with a desire to deepen their own understanding of yoga, not necessarily to teach right away.

However, this is a teacher training program, so in order to graduate with your qualification, you’ll still be expected to participate in teaching practicums, assessments, and self-directed study. You’re welcome to take the training as a personal development journey — and still finish with the tools to teach, should you choose to.

On average, expect 5–8 hours per week outside of contact hours. This includes reading, journaling, integration practices, and preparing for assessments.

We’ve intentionally designed this training to fit alongside full-time work, parenting, and life — while still upholding the integrity and depth required for professional qualification.

Jala Yoga® encourages self-directed learning and values real effort. If assessments aren’t completed or minimum requirements aren’t met, you’ll be awarded a Certificate of Participation instead of full teacher qualification.

Homework load may vary depending on your study habits, systems, and previous experience — but we’re here to support you the whole way.

Our students range in age, background, and life experience — but all share a deep desire to learn, grow, and contribute meaningfully.
We only accept students who show readiness, humility, and commitment to a trauma-informed learning environment.
Expect to study alongside thoughtful, heart-led humans.

If accepted, you'll receive an invoice for a $1000 AUD deposit.
You’ll have a 2-week cooling-off period after payment to change your mind.
After that, we’ll confirm your payment plan and guide you through how to prepare.

Yes — for hygiene reasons, we ask that each student brings their own yoga mat.
This helps us maintain a clean and respectful shared practice space.

Please dress comfortably and respectfully to align with the trauma-informed environment we hold.

• For women: tights/leggings and singlets or shirts

• For men: shorts or pants, singlets or shirts
  
  Each student will be given a Jala Yoga® training shirt to wear on contact days.

We cap the cohort at just 10 students (in online & in-person cohorts) to ensure each trainee receives personalised feedback, mentorship, and deep support.

This small-group format allows us to uphold the high standard required for graduation as a confident, capable yoga teacher.

Each module includes a mix of:

• Written assessments (e.g., short reflections, workbooks, or quizzes)

• Practical assessments (e.g., teaching demonstrations)
  These are delivered in-person and online, with plenty of guidance to support you in preparation.

This is not a “pay-for-a-certificate” program. We hold high standards and want every graduate to feel proud and qualified.

If you do not demonstrate sufficient effort, progress, or meet assessment requirements, you may complete the training with a Certificate of Participation instead — which does not qualify you to teach yoga.

That said, we’re here to support you every step of the way — we want you to succeed.

In many cases, yes — if this training expands your professional offerings, it may be considered professional development.
Please check with your accountant or financial advisor to confirm eligibility based on your situation.

At the time of writing (July 2025), there is no requirement to be vaccinated to participate in our trainings.
We respect individual health decisions and will notify students of any public health changes that affect our in-person sessions.

Possibly — depending on where you're at in your recovery journey.

This is a trauma-informed training, not a trauma therapy group. We speak openly about how trauma can show up in people’s lives, and how to offer safer spaces through yoga. You’ll learn to support others through a trauma-informed lens — not to process or “heal” your own trauma during the training.

If hearing about trauma or discussing trauma frameworks feels destabilising for you right now, this may not be the right time to enroll. You're always welcome to return when you're feeling more grounded.

This course is designed to support students working with people who have trauma — not to act as a substitute for therapy.

Jala Yoga offers a 2-week cooling-off period, starting from the date your deposit is paid.
During this time, you may withdraw for any reason and receive a full refund.

After the 2-week window closes, refunds are not available. This is because:

• Learning materials are released immediately

• A small group spot is reserved just for you

• Course planning, administration, and logistics are already underway

We welcome neurodivergent students, and the course is designed with flexible, trauma-informed, and sensory-aware principles in mind.

We offer closed captions, extra time for assessments, and alternative formats where possible. If you have access needs, let us know — we’re here to work with you, not against you. (And honestly, most of your teachers are also neurodiverse!) 

Yes. Our training exceeds the minimum standards required by both Yoga Alliance International/Australia and Yoga Australia.

Graduates receive a 350-hour certificate and may register as a teacher at the appropriate level.
The curriculum also includes CPD hours that may be claimable with other peak bodies — check with yours for details.

We understand that life happens.
In the event of illness, personal crisis, or other genuine needs, we may offer deferral into the following year’s cohort (subject to availability and a small admin fee).
We ask that you reach out early so we can support you in making a plan.
