Can I Complete a Yoga Teacher Training From Anywhere in Australia (or New Zealand)?

Can I Complete a Yoga Teacher Training From Anywhere in Australia (or New Zealand)?

The short answer is YES!

Here’s exactly how it works.

One of the questions we get asked most often at Jala Yoga is some version of this:

“I’d love to do the 350hr training, but I’m not on the Gold Coast — is this actually possible for me?”

It’s a fair question. A lot of yoga teacher trainings that claim to be “online” mean something more like: here’s a library of pre-recorded videos, good luck. The live teaching, the mentorship, the community - that’s reserved for people in the room.

That’s not how we do it.

We built the Jala Yoga 350hr Teacher Training as a genuinely blended program — combining high-quality, professionally filmed self-paced content with live contact weekends delivered across the year. Whether you’re joining us from your home office in Adelaide, your clinic in Auckland, or in person in Currumbin, you’re getting the same depth of education, the same mentorship, and the same community. This post is here to give you a clear, honest picture of how the blended delivery actually works.

How the Blended Delivery Works

The 350hr training runs across the year with a rhythm that’s been intentionally designed to support working professionals, parents, people managing health conditions, and neurodivergent learners. We know our students are balancing a lot — clinical caseloads, teaching schedules, family life, their own wellbeing — and the structure reflects that.

The program combines three key elements:

1. Professionally filmed, self-paced content

This isn’t a shaky phone recording of a live session. Our self-paced modules are high-quality, professionally produced content covering the theoretical and foundational components of the curriculum — from trauma theory and neuroscience to philosophy, ethics, and scope of practice. You work through this in your own time, at your own pace, between contact weekends. For those of you who learn best by revisiting material, pausing and reflecting, or fitting study around shift work and family life, this format is designed with you in mind.

2. Two live contact weekends per month

Each month, you’ll join us for two contact weekends (Saturday 10:30am–3:00pm AEST and Sunday 8:30am–3:00pm AEST). Here’s where the blended model comes to life:

  • Weekend one is delivered entirely via Zoom for all students — whether you’re remote or local. Everyone is in the same virtual room together.
  • Weekend two is delivered as a hybrid session. Students who are able to join us in person come to Currumbin on the Gold Coast. Remote students join via Zoom — and our setup means you genuinely feel like you’re in the room (more on that below).

3. One free monthly meditation session

All Jala Yoga students and graduates are invited to our monthly meditation group. This is part of how our community stays connected well beyond the training itself — and it matters more than people realise until they’re in it.

The Part Most Online Trainings Get Wrong — And How We’ve Solved It

Here’s the honest truth about remote learning in most yoga trainings: the technology is an afterthought. A shaky laptop propped on a chair. Audio that cuts in and out. A facilitator who forgets to look at the Zoom chat for 45 minutes.

We’ve invested significantly in making sure that’s not your experience.

Our hybrid contact sessions are set up with professional-grade AV — high quality sound, clear visuals, and a dedicated setup designed specifically for blended delivery. This isn’t a hobby project; our AV system was engineered by an audio and visual specialist to ensure remote students feel genuinely present in the room.

More importantly: we run two educators on every contact session. One educator is on the floor with in-person students. The other is dedicated to the online cohort — monitoring the Zoom chat, facilitating participation, and making sure remote students aren’t just watching but genuinely engaged and supported throughout every session.

Our remote graduates consistently tell us they felt part of the group — not like they were watching from the outside. That’s the standard we hold ourselves to.

What About Accreditation — Does It Count Wherever I Am?

Yes. Your qualification is identical regardless of whether you complete the training in person or remotely.

The Jala Yoga 350hr Teacher Training is accredited with:

Yoga Australia — the peak professional body for yoga in Australia, recognised across all states and territories.

Yoga Alliance International — internationally recognised accreditation that supports teaching and professional recognition across Australia, New Zealand, and beyond.

Whether you’re based in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, regional Queensland, rural NSW, or Auckland — your qualification carries the same weight. You can use it to teach in studios, schools, healthcare settings, community organisations, or independently.

If you’re an allied health professional — a psychologist, counsellor, OT, social worker, or physiotherapist — this accreditation also supports your continuing professional development requirements. If you’re looking to integrate trauma-informed yoga and somatic tools into your clinical practice, this training gives you a recognised and credible foundation to do so. You won’t need to “start again” — the 350hr is designed to build on the skills and clinical awareness you already bring.

What If the Financial Investment Is a Barrier?

We never want cost to be the reason someone who is right for this training can’t access it.

Payment plans are available to all students. You can secure your place with a deposit and spread the balance across the duration of the training. If you need a plan that works around your specific situation, just ask — we’ll have an honest conversation about what’s possible.

Partial scholarships are available each year for people who deeply resonate with the intention of this work but are facing financial, personal, or systemic barriers to access. Scholarships are open to anyone in Australia, for both hybrid and remote study options. Applications open in September each year for the following intake.

If you’re interested in the current intake and finances are a concern, don’t wait until September — reach out directly and we’ll talk it through.

The Community Part — Which Is Actually Significant

Something that surprises our students more than anything else is how connected they feel by the end of the training — especially those who studied remotely.

The twice-monthly contact weekends, the monthly meditation group, the shared Canvas discussion boards, and the self-paced content that gives everyone a common foundation — these aren’t just logistics. They create a genuine learning community of people who share your values around inclusivity, nervous system safety, and person-centred care. Our graduates stay in touch. Many collaborate professionally. Some go on to teach with us.

For many of our students — particularly those coming from allied health or working in spaces where they’ve felt alone in wanting to do things differently — this community becomes one of the most meaningful parts of the experience. The relationships built in this training, whether you studied from Currumbin or from your spare room in Christchurch, tend to last.

Is This Training Right for You?

The blended format works well if you:

  • Are a health professional wanting to integrate trauma-informed yoga and somatic practices into your clinical work
  • Are a yoga teacher ready to deepen your skills in working with complex presentations, trauma, neurodivergence, or chronic health conditions
  • Are a self-motivated learner who thrives with a blend of self-paced study and live, interactive learning
  • Have a reliable internet connection and a quiet space for weekend sessions
  • Live outside the Gold Coast region, or have work, family, or health commitments that make fortnightly travel impractical
  • Value evidence-based education that honours both science and tradition, without the dogma

It may not be the right fit if you strongly prefer learning only through in-person physical practice and aren’t comfortable engaging on camera — though we’d still encourage you to have a conversation with us before ruling it out.
