How Much Time Does a 350hr Yoga Teacher Training Take?

Almost every person who books a call with us asks a version of the same question, and almost none of them ask it directly. It comes out as "I'm just not sure about the timing." Underneath that is something more specific. I have a job, or a caseload, or kids, or a graduate certificate already open on my desk, and I need to know whether this fits before I let myself want it.

That deserves a real answer with numbers in it, not reassurance. So here are ours.

This post is for anyone weighing a 350-hour trauma-informed yoga teacher training against a life that is already full. It covers the actual weekly hours, what the monthly rhythm looks like, what happens when you miss a weekend, and where our flexibility ends. If you are deciding whether you have the capacity for this, you should be able to work it out from this page without booking a call at all.

How many hours a week does a 350hr yoga teacher training take?

Our 350hr training runs over ten months and asks for roughly five to seven hours of self-paced study per week, on top of two contact weekends per month. Contact time and self-study together make up the 350 accredited hours. The load is not evenly distributed, so some weeks are lighter and some assessment periods are heavier.

The detail people find most useful is that those hours break into pieces you can actually place in a week. It is not one unbroken block. It is recorded lectures, practice videos, reading, and reflective writing, designed to be picked up in the gaps rather than requiring a cleared evening.

There is also a four-week break in June between Semester 1 and Semester 2. That is deliberate. Ten months of continuous study with no pause is how you produce burnt-out graduates, which is a strange outcome for a training that spends its time teaching nervous system literacy.

What does the monthly schedule look like?

Each month has two contact weekends, and they work differently from one another.

The first is Zoom only. Everyone is on screen, including the Gold Coast locals. That means breakout rooms work properly, and it means a student in Melbourne or in a remote community is in exactly the same room as everyone else, with no second-tier experience.

The second is hybrid. You can come in person to the Gold Coast, or join by Zoom. We put real money into the audio-visual setup for this, working with an audio engineer, because "hybrid" too often means remote students watching a bad wide shot of a room they are not in.

Saturdays run roughly 10:30am to 3:00pm and Sundays 8:30am to 3:00pm, Queensland time. Between contact weekends you work through our self-paced library, which opens to enrolled students from November, two months before the January start. That head start exists so day one feels like arriving prepared rather than arriving behind.

What happens if you miss a contact weekend?

Every live session is recorded and uploaded. If you miss one, you watch the recording and submit a short written summary, around 200 words, to confirm you have covered the content. There is no make-up fee and no extra cost.

This is the single most common thing people brace for on a discovery call, and the assumption is always the same. That missing a weekend means a penalty, or a scramble, or quietly falling behind for the rest of the year. That assumption comes from somewhere real. Plenty of education is structured so the cost of being human lands on the student.

Can you do a 350hr yoga teacher training while working full time?

Yes, and most of our students do. Our cohorts are consistently made up of people holding full-time roles in allied health, community services, education, and emergency work, often alongside their own practice or existing teaching (and families)!

The design assumption behind our fortnightly structure is that you have a job. Contact weekends land fortnightly rather than weekly for exactly this reason, and the self-paced content sits between them so you set your own pace on the bulk of the load. Recordings mean a work trip or a rostered shift does not cost you a module.

What we will not tell you is that it is easy, or that you will not feel the weight of it in October. You will. The question is not whether it costs you something. It is whether the structure lets you carry the cost without breaking, and whether there is a break in the middle when you need one.

Can you do it while caring for children?

We have had students move through the whole ten months while parenting, including parenting several children at once (some of whom have their join us in person and online, colouring in the background), and while going through significant life upheaval. They have told us the training functioned as an anchor rather than another thing on the pile.

What we can tell you is how our structure actually behaves around family life. Contact weekends are fortnightly, so there is a rhythm we have come to think of as family fortnight, self fortnight. Kids are welcome on camera, and nobody here is upset by a four-year-old appearing mid-lecture. You can attend part of a session and catch the rest on playback. You are also actively encouraged to use family members in your assessments, so teaching your eleven-year-old a breathing practice becomes coursework rather than competing with it.

Your nervous system, and your family's stability in the world, must always come first. If this year is not the year, our intakes run annually.

What if you are already enrolled in another course?

People often come to us part-way through something else. A graduate certificate. Another qualification they have deferred. The real question there is not whether our programme is good. It is whether the loads stack.

Sometimes they do. Coursework in adjacent fields often reinforces itself, and our self-paced structure means you control when the bulk of the hours happen. Sometimes they do not, and the answer on a call is "not this year". We would rather tell you that and see you the following year than enrol you into a year that costs you your health. Applications for the next intake are a single email away, and deferral does not cost you anything.

What if you fall behind?

Extensions and deferrals go through a formal request process rather than a case-by-case negotiation, which means the answer does not depend on how well you plead your case on a bad day. Students who have fallen behind during the year have gone on to graduate months after their cohort with their qualification intact.

"Falling behind" is a phrase that carries a lot of shame for people who have been through education systems that were not built for their brain. Our flexibility on completion timelines is not a concession we make reluctantly. It is a structural feature, and it is there because a fixed finish line measures the shape of someone's year, not the quality of their teaching.

How Jala Yoga designs for capacity rather than stamina

The approach is not just what we are teaching, it is how we operate as a school. We teach nervous system literacy, allostatic load, and trauma-informed practice across all four terms. It would be incoherent to teach that content inside a structure that quietly required students to override their own limits to stay enrolled.

So the accessibility shows up in the architecture. Fortnightly rather than weekly contact. A mid-year break. Everything recorded. Self-paced content released two months early. Written summaries instead of penalties. Personalised study plans, because our lead educator is AuDHD and knows exactly what a one-size study schedule does to an ADHD or autistic learner. Fidgets welcome. Payment plans built around your income rather than ours.

Our faculty are practicing clinicians, including a physiotherapist, a clinical exercise physiologist, social workers, an acupuncturist, and a psychologist, which means the people teaching you understand load, recovery, and capacity as clinical concepts rather than motivational ones.

Frequently asked questions

How many hours per week is the Jala Yoga 350hr teacher training? Around five to seven hours of self-paced study per week, plus two contact weekends per month across ten months. The load is heavier during assessment periods and lighter at other times, and there is a four-week break in June.

Can I do the 350hr training entirely online from interstate? Yes. One contact weekend a month is Zoom-only for everyone, and the second is hybrid with a professional audio-visual setup so remote students are in the room rather than watching it. Students join from across Australia, including remote communities.

What happens if I miss a session? All live sessions are recorded. You watch the recording and submit a written summary of around 200 words. There is no additional fee. Some assessments do require live attendance, and those dates are published in advance so you can plan around them.

Is there a penalty for falling behind? No penalty. Extensions and deferrals go through a formal request process, and students have graduated several months after their cohort with their qualification intact.

Can I do this training with young children at home? Many of our students have. Contact weekends are fortnightly, sessions are recorded, children are welcome on camera, and family members can be involved in assessments.

When does the 2027 intake run? 9 January to 31 October 2027, across four terms. Enrolled students get access to the self-paced content library from November 2026.
