Applications for the 2027 Jala Yoga 350hr Teacher Training OPEN NOW

Why We Hire Our Own Graduates as Faculty

Three of the people currently teaching inside the Jala Yoga 350hr training did not arrive as outside hires. Sam Cameron, Vee Greenslade and Neha Sharma all completed the training themselves before they started teaching in it. That is a deliberate pattern, not a coincidence, and it says something specific about what a training is actually for.

Most yoga teacher trainings measure success at the point of certification. Did the person complete the hours, pass the assessment, get the piece of paper. That is a reasonable minimum bar. It is also a low one. A training that is genuinely working should be producing people capable enough that the training itself would trust them to teach the next cohort.

Why does a training's real standard show up after graduation?

A sales page can say almost anything about what happens during a course. What is harder to fake is what a training is willing to do with its own graduates afterward. Would it trust them to teach? Would it put its name behind their judgement in a room with someone else's students? Most trainings never have to answer that question publicly, because the relationship ends at the certificate.

Ours does not, and Sam, Vee and Neha (and more) are the visible proof of that rather than a claim we are asking you to take on faith.

What it actually takes to go from graduate to faculty

Nobody moves from student to teacher here by default. Sam is a Clinical Exercise Physiologist. Vee is a Social Worker. Neha is a Senior Social Worker. All three already held clinical qualifications and professional judgement before they trained with us, and all three went through our 350hr Program before they started teaching on our team.

That sequence matters. It means the people teaching trauma-informed practice to new students were themselves trained, assessed and mentored in exactly that approach, not hired in from a different lineage and asked to adapt on the fly. The teaching stays coherent across cohorts because the people delivering it were shaped by the same framework they are now teaching.

Why this is a small-cohort decision, not a marketing one

Hiring your own graduates only works at a certain scale. It requires knowing candidates well enough, over enough time, to trust their judgement with someone else's students. That is part of why we have kept our cohort small since 2021 rather than growing it. Mentorship that actually produces future faculty does not survive being stretched across a much larger group.

It also means the relationship with the training does not have to end at graduation for the people who want it to continue. Some graduates build entirely separate practices, which is a completely legitimate outcome. Some come through the internship and some step into teaching roles here.

How Jala Yoga approaches this

Our faculty already includes practicing allied health clinicians across physiotherapy, exercise physiology, counselling, social work and psychology, because we think the science students learn should come from people who use it in their own work. Sam, Vee and Neha extend that same logic one step further: the trauma-informed approach we teach is also being taught, in part, by people who learned it inside this exact training and were mentored into teaching it well.

It is a reasonable, concrete question to ask of any training you are considering: who is teaching, and how did they get there. "Experienced facilitators" on a sales page does not tell you much on its own. Whether a program is willing to hand its own graduates a room, after a defined and honestly-priced mentorship period, tells you a great deal more.

Frequently asked questions

Do Jala Yoga graduates go on to teach in the 350hr training? Some do. Sam Cameron, Vee Greenslade and Neha Sharma are just some of our current faculty members who completed the Jala Yoga 350hr themselves before teaching in it, each after completing our 150hr Internship Program.

How does someone become faculty at Jala Yoga after graduating? Graduates who want to move toward teaching typically complete our 150hr Internship Program first, a mentored, ten-month pathway. It is not a guaranteed route to a faculty role, but it is the structure that has proved to be supportive.

Why does Jala Yoga keep its cohorts small? Knowing a graduate well enough, over enough time, to trust their judgement with someone else's students takes sustained attention that does not scale past a certain group size. We have kept the cohort small since 2021 partly to protect that.
