It’s become a buzzword — popping up in yoga trainings, workshops, even studio class descriptions.
But despite this, many clients and students still walk away feeling dysregulated, misunderstood, or quietly unsafe.
If you've ever felt that way too — as a student or a professional — you're not alone.
And here’s the hard truth: trauma-informed isn’t always what it claims to be.
At Jala Yoga®, we’ve worked with SO MANY yoga teachers, pilates instructors, physios, and mental health clinicians who completed a trauma-informed course… and still felt unsure about how to adapt a body scan for someone with a history of dissociation, what to do when a student shuts down in savasana, or when movement might be more regulating than stillness.
This is where the need for hands on, practical, real world application on trainings is needed, and unfortunately, is just lacking.
This is where our 350hr Teacher Training comes in.
Being trauma-informed isn’t just a concept you learn about in Week 2 of a course..
It’s how our training is structured.
It’s the language we use.
It’s what your educators live & breathe each day within their clinical roles, and share with you.
Recent research supports this shift toward embodied, adaptive practice.
For example, a 2025 qualitative study explored how people with complex trauma actually experience yoga as a healing tool — and found that what mattered most wasn’t the practice itself, but how it was delivered, and whether students felt emotionally and physically safe (White et al., 2025).
Another recent publication emphasised that for trauma-informed yoga to be effective, it must draw from neuroscience, polyvagal theory, and offer choice-based, co-regulatory teaching — not just scripts or posture lists (Deeley, 2025).
This is the heart of how we teach at Jala.
It helps you embody the work — so that when you’re in the room with a client or student navigating anxiety, freeze, or overwhelm, you’re not reaching for a rigid protocol… you’re responding with presence, permission, and attunement.
We’ll teach you how to:
Use invitational language and adapt your cues in real-time
Recognise signs of nervous system overwhelm
Modify practices for trauma, chronic pain, neurodivergence, or low-energy days
Stay within your scope while integrating body-based support
Build trust with students who’ve felt unsafe in wellness spaces
Whether you're a yoga teacher, counsellor, social worker, PT, or someone at the very beginning of your yoga journey — this training is about learning how to meet real humans, with real histories, in a way that supports long-term healing.
Yoga teachers & movement professionals wanting more than surface-level trauma training
Clinicians ready to bring the body into therapy — safely and ethically
Pilates or fitness instructors working with diverse, sensitive students
Aspiring yoga teachers who don’t want to “undo” poor training later — they want to start here
Jala Yoga® isn’t just trauma-informed in content — it’s trauma-informed in how we teach, relate, assess, and hold space.
Here’s how we stand apart:
Neuro-affirming by design — We honour diverse brains and bodies through flexible assessments, sensory-aware learning environments, and permission-led pacing.
Clinician-led & interdisciplinary — Learn from psychologists, physios, social workers, yoga therapists, and more. Our faculty is grounded in lived experience and evidence.
Disability-aware & adaptive — We train you to work with chronic pain, psychosocial disability, neurodivergence, and fatigue — using chair-based, breath-led, and choice-rich practices.
Application-focused — You won’t just walk away with knowledge. You’ll leave with real tools for private practice, group classes, clinical settings, and NDIS work.
Rooted in current, up-to-date research — Everything we teach is backed by neuroscience, trauma theory, and emerging studies in movement, mindfulness, and somatic healing.
We don’t teach from scripts.
We teach from relationship.
This is trauma-informed, neuro-affirming education — built for the real world, and the people in it.
